If you are looking for bespoke equipment manufacturing, have you considered the true importance of accurate detailed design and manufacturing drawings?
Bennett Engineering are specialists in designing bespoke machinery and equipment for a wide range of uses in a variety of sectors. We also offer a manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and installation service to customers.
This blog outlines how producing high quality CAD models facilitates the seamless transition from design to manufacture. And Bennett Engineering can back this statement up with the fact that 95% of the detailed designs and manufacturing packs we’ve completed over the last decade have been manufactured and the bespoke machinery is in use.
The critical role of precision in design
Precision in design is the cornerstone of successful manufacturing. It’s truly critical to have a detailed design CAD model that has considered every little detail, Bennett Engineering will ensure that every component fits together as intended AND we keep an eye on how much clearance is required to get your hands in with the tools like the spanners, sockets and screwdrivers needed to put together those components. These considerations come from experience and the fact that the people who design here at Bennett Engineering actually manufacture and assemble some of the projects we complete. Our meticulous approach to design for manufacture not only streamlines the manufacturing and assembly process but also minimises the risk of having a machine that doesn’t function correctly or is too difficult to install.
Bennett Engineering are skilled mechanical design engineers; that’s why there is a high success rate for our designs being manufactured. Our design engineers focus on the practical application of each bespoke machine we design, considering factors such as onsite functionality, operating environment, and ease of installation. This attention to detail ensures that our designs for bespoke machinery are not only visually accurate on CAD but also practical, manufacturable and easy to assemble.
Efficient production of complex components
A testament to our commitment to precision for CAD modelling is a project that contains well over 4,000 parts and had to fit inside a ‘box’ (specifically a shipping container) as a factory in a box concept. With a tight time frame to completely design this interesting piece of bespoke equipment our attention to detail did not waiver; our focus was on achieving total accuracy which is paramount for something as complex as this factory in a box was.
This capability allows us to meet diverse client needs; whatever is being manufactured we can design machinery that is always designed to be easily installed, easily maintained, easy to use by operators and importantly have a long life span. Our designs never compromise on quality.
Design for manufacture
This stage of our process is all about bridging the gap between concept and production. Designing with manufacturing and assembly in mind is essential to ensure that the concept we’ve outlined at the start of the project is feasible and cost effective to make.
Over the years Bennett Engineering have designed a wide range of machinery from simple lifting devices that are created for maintenance through to large scale machines that manufacture a specific product or process materials. When we design for manufacture everything is going to be fit for purpose; our site surveys, meetings, discussions and project brief will have captured everything that is needed to prioritise efficient production and assembly. We consider factors such as material selection (is your operating environment dusty / abrasive / always cold are questions that help us form our material selection), tolerances, product quality, standardisation of parts, ease of maintenance, onsite installation requirements and limits to ensure that your bespoke machinery meets all specifications.
Streamlined manufacturing
In one project our team not only solved a complex challenge a product manufacturer was experiencing we also saved them a significant amount of money by introducing machine modernisation. By designing bespoke upgrades to elements like drive boxes and replacing other parts of the machinery the manufacturer was able to quickly upgrade to increase their throughput and product quality. Bennett Engineering spent time in the plant watching the existing processes and machinery, completed in depth surveys, then started to design solutions. The concept stage quickly progressed to detailed design and manufacturing pack production. The client needed our support to manufacture, assembly and install the machinery and equipment that we’d produced for them. This saved them time, hassle of finding a good manufacturer, issues with installation and generally got them back to production quickly. The machinery has been super reliable and has enabled more operators to be trained on the line due to the simplicity of the operation of the machinery and equipment.
The Bennett Engineering advantage
Our approach combines mechanical engineering expertise with a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and assembly requirements. We engage in thorough discussions with out clients to understand the setting, the challenges, the usage of machinery, the installation requirements and all factors that need to be considered when designing bespoke machines. This collaborative approach ensures that our designs are not only accurate but also tailored to the specific needs of each project. By prioritising precision and practical considerations in our design process, Bennett Engineering consistently delivers designs that are ready for manufacture. Our commitment to producing high-quality CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings ensures that our clients receive products that meet their exact specifications, reinforcing our reputation for excellence in bespoke equipment manufacturing.
